National minimum monthly wage to be increased by Rs. 5,000 – Adaderana Biz English
The Cupboard of Ministers has given its acceptance to amend the Nationwide Bare minimum Wage of Staff Act No. 03 of 2016 to raise the least monthly wage and each day wage of all staff in any field.
This was advised by the tripartite sub-committee of trade unions representing Tiny- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and employees appointed by the Nationwide Labour Advisory Council.
The pertinent proposal was introduced to the Cabinet conference held on Monday (March 25) by Minister of Labour and International Employment Manusha Nanayakkara.
Accordingly, it is proposed to enhance the bare minimum month-to-month wage by Rs. 5,000, to Rs. 17,500.
In addition, the minimum every day wage of employees is proposed to be lifted from Rs. 500 to Rs. 700.
