Compassion, concern, frustration and hope filled the room at last week’s New Bedford Light Community Conversion on addiction recovery.
The panel discussion included participation from those in attendance, focusing on the challenges of recovery, the “continuum of care,” and the need for organizations and centers to better collaborate.
“We’ve got to work more closely together,” said panelist Carl Alves, the CEO of Positive Action Against Chemical Addiction. “We’ve become far too transactional in our approaches, and I think we need to really focus on more relational, transformative solutions.”
Alves was joined by Melissa Kachapis, clinical director of residential and outpatient services at Steppingstone; David Daniels, project director at RISE Recovery Support Center; and our own Arthur Hirsch, whose contributions to The Light’s Addiction Factor series has been key.
The Community Conversation is one in a series hosted by The New Bedford Light. The full recording is included here. Our first Community Conversation on rising seas and how we adapt is also available.
